I never really thought of why I do Lent…well I guess I have, but I don’t know if it makes sense to anybody.

Anyway, I’m not really religious. I was confirmed Catholic, but to be honest I go to church on Christmas and Easter with my family and that’s it. I clearly don’t follow the Church’s doctrine…so why do I do Lent?

I suppose at first it was just because it was a ritual my family and I did. But I only got really into it the past like two years. For me I don’t necessarily do it as a part of my faith. I think it’s more the fact that I like to be challenged. But at the same time, I’m not really good at self-discipline. If somebody else, however, challenges me, I’m usually up for it! I guess I like the idea of bettering myself, but I’m weak…so it motivates me to do it for a higher power. I tend to do more for other people than I do for myself…so, I guess that’s why Lent works for me. Hopefully, I can use these 40 days as a learning experience and self-reflect.

Now that I’ve been ranting for awhile…I’ve decided to give up both sweets and soda. Soda I will allow on the weekends, if I drink, and before tests because caffeine helps me focus. I will also make it a goal to drink 8 cups of water a day and track my food intake. I’ve never done this much for Lent, but it’s honestly not that difficult…

LEZ DO IT.
